Why are you running
for office?
The public education system is the bedrock of a strong
community. It is the foundation that allows for neighborhoods to thrive and for
our economy to boom. We must once again work to strengthen our schools and
create a platform for schools to succeed and prosper.
I LOVE Muskegon – always have, always will. I am running for school board because when
asked by members of the community to step up I always have. I believe that when
you love something you need to get involved.
The School Board needs new voices; voices that will stand up, fight, and
tackle the tough problems. Fight for the students, teachers, staff, and the
community. With your help I can be that person.
Not long ago, I sat in the classroom as a student. This perspective
is something the current board lacks, and is something that would benefit the
students of the district. I am a strong believer of having every voice
represented in our community, and believe my new voice would be advantageous to
the district.
What are your top
three priorities?
1. Be an advocate in Lansing to create financial stability
and restore public education funding.
We must fight to keep our democracy in place by making sure
the financial stability of the district never approaches that where an
Emergency Manager would be called. To do this we must help to fight to restore
funding for our schools.
2. Increase cooperation and conversation with teachers,
staff, and students.
School works best when everyone is a team. It is pivotal
that all voices are heard and understood. The best solutions are hardly ever
created by one individual; rather, they are the products of teams and
cooperation.
3. Increase early childhood education.
It has been shown that best way to improve education in high
school and improve future prospects is a good education before kindergarten and
during elementary school. As a consequence, I will fight for opportunities for
the youngest in our district to help make sure that will be the best and
brightest possible.
What is the most
pressing issue for this office?
Financial stability is by far the most pressing issue.
After years of continued cuts and reductions, it is time
someone is willing and ready to stand up for the students, staff and teachers
of this district. It is time to go toe-to-toe with Lansing legislators to
restore funding to our schools and undo decades of revenue decline.
